Choose Your User Type

When you first open ItemTracker, you'll be asked to select how you'll use the app. This customizes the interface and terminology for your needs.

Homeowner
Organize your personal home with Rooms, Containers, and Items.
Rental Owner
Manage multiple rental properties with Properties, Rooms, Containers, and Items. Includes turnover and cleaner management (Pro).

View assigned properties, verify items during turnovers, and report damage.
Tip

You can change your user type later in Settings. The app adapts its labels and navigation to match your choice.

Add Your First Room or Property

For Homeowners, rooms are the top-level organizational unit representing physical spaces. For Rental Owners, you'll first add a property, then rooms within it.

Navigate to Rooms (or Properties)
Tap the Rooms tab (Homeowners) or Properties tab (Rental Owners) in the bottom navigation bar.
Add a new room
Tap the + button or Add Room to create your first room.
Enter details
Give your room a name (e.g., "Garage", "Kitchen", "Master Bedroom") and optionally add a photo. Rental Owners can name properties (e.g., "Beach House", "Downtown Condo").
Save the room
Tap Save to create the room. It will now appear in your rooms list.
Common Room Types
Garage, Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom, Living Room, Office, Basement, Attic, Storage Unit
Add Photos
Adding a photo to your room helps with visual identification and navigation.

Add Your First Item

Now that you have a room, let's add your first item. You can add items manually or use AI-powered detection.

Manual Entry

Select a room or container
Navigate to the room where you want to add an item, or select a container within that room.
Tap Add Item
Tap the + button and select Manual Entry.
Fill in item details
Enter the item name, category, quantity, and any notes. Add a photo for easy identification.
Save the item
Tap Save to add the item to your inventory.

AI Detection (Recommended)

Let ItemTracker's AI automatically identify and categorize items from photos:

Choose AI Detection
Tap + and select AI Detection instead of Manual Entry.
Take a photo
Point your camera at the item and take a clear photo. The AI works best with good lighting and a clear view.
Review AI suggestions
The AI will suggest a name, category, and sometimes brand/model information. Review and edit as needed.
Confirm and save
Make any adjustments and tap Save to add the item.
AI Detection Tips

The AI reads text on items to create accurate names. Point the camera at product labels, brand names, or model numbers for the best results. "Board Game" becomes "Monopoly Board Game" when the AI sees the box!
